To ensure that dairy farming continues to make a valuable contribution to the food supply in the future, we must now invest in sustainable milk production.
After completing these steps, we devised a plan for sustainable, profitable and enjoyable dairy farming. The plan starts in our own company and focusses on creating value throughout our supply chain – both up-stream and downstream, from our suppliers up until our customers. Because every action and every interaction contributes in a unique way to realizing our mission.
Fully connected with our vision, we have started a journey in 2020 to translate our sustainability efforts into an authentic, credible and inspirational programme for key stakeholders, but especially for our employees, supply chain and farmers.
To deliver this programme we have taken the following steps in 2020:
We believe in the potential of dairy as a sustainable source of protein to feed a growing world population. But as the demand for more animal protein is growing, so is the attention to its footprint and the critical consideration of animal welfare within our food system. At the same time, more and more consumers want to know how their food is produced and where it comes from.
The growing awareness on the human impact to climate change creates new challenges and opportunities for our business and the way we do business.
The challenges we face
At Lely, we feel responsible and are motivated to address these challenges and opportunities by utilising our strengths. In doing so, we contribute to the success of our business and to the well-being of all stakeholders involved, and strengthen our reputation as a thought leader on innovations and on sustainability.
Taking responsibility
'We formulated an ambitious programme because we want to run our business responsibly for people, planet and animals. We want to create value and positive impact throughout our value chain. That’s why we will involve all our stakeholders and activate them to contribute. The sum of their actions will make the big difference.'
