In order to better face challenges such as component shortages in the future, we are bringing strategic procurement and operational procurement under one roof. So that from one vision and with more cooperation we can ensure that we are well equipped to deal with challenges in both the short and long term. So that we can deliver what we promise and at the same time our innovative power will not be under pressure. Next to that, the growth of our organisation has led to an increase in the number of projects and programs across Lely. To ensure that our projects are aligned with our roadmaps and to improve the monitoring, progress and results of our projects, we are setting up a project and portfolio management office in 2022.

‘Our HR vision is about bringing out the best in people. At Lely, we want to empower our employees to take responsibility for their career development as well as their wellbeing and vitality. Because when you feel confident in your skills and happy in your life, work becomes more enjoyable and interesting. Lely helps its employees along this journey. We do this by providing training through our Academy, motivating our employees to stay fit through our Fit at Lely programme and by investing in the personal development of our employees.’
Onboarding offers a warm welcome to new colleagues
Our onboarding programme is designed to give our new colleagues a warm welcome and the best possible start to their career at Lely. During this intensive programme, they learn all about our organisation, the world of dairy farming, and familiarise themselves with the Lely Code of Conduct.
Speakers Academy inspires, educates and forges connections
The Speakers Academy events, part of the Lely Academy, invite internal and external experts to share their passion and expertise with our employees. Just like the Lely Academy, the event series covers a wide variety of subjects, from mindfulness to cows, and is designed to inspire, educate and forge connections. In 2021, there were seven online events. The series will continue in 2022.
Training curriculum demonstrates what it means to be One Lely
The One Lely programme recognises that we achieve more when we work together as one team, united by our shared mission to improve the lives of dairy farmers, regardless of our role, department or location. The One Lely curriculum exists of trainings on what it means to be One Lely and what attitudes and behaviours are part of the One Lely philosophy. Opportunities for personal, team and leadership development support our One Lely objectives.
124 interns
At Lely, we welcome upcoming talent to explore the world of farming innovation. In 2021, we brought on 124 interns. 14% continued to work at Lely immediately after completing their internship. Others re-joined Lely after finishing their studies or at a later stage in their career. The Lely internship programme is both a powerful recruiting tool and a valuable contribution to the career prospects of students and starters.
Lely Academy – A great place
to grow
To excel in a changing world, we must change with it. The Lely Academy supports employees in their personal development to bring out the best in themselves and in their professional development to stay on top of the latest innovations in our field.
New performance & development method empowers employees
Lely is moving from periodic performance reviews to ongoing performance & development. This new approach emphasises the professional and personal development of employees, continuous learning and a forward-thinking mindset. The Lely HR department facilitated a large number of workshops to support the transition from looking back to looking forward. From setting rigid long-term goals to setting flexible short-term and cyclical goals. And from having just three performance-related meetings per year to continuing the conversation throughout the year. The new performance & development method puts the employee in charge of their growth path and empowers them to work towards their goals. The Lely Academy will offer a wide variety of (technical) education and training programmes to support employees in their development.
Professionalising our
customs processes
To support our growth objectives and international expansion, Lely is professionalising its customs-related processes and working towards the status of Authorised Economic Operator (AEO). To become AEO certified, companies must prove that they are a reliable player in the supply chain, that they have effective and efficient customs procedures in place and that they comply with all regulations. The status of AEO will grant Lely easier access to customs simplification, such as temporary storage in customs areas, and limits custom controls. This minimises shipment delays and allows us to better deliver on our commitments to clients.
Digital transformation
In 2021, Lely welcomed a digital transformation director to coordinate the digital transformation of our company and products. Data governance plays a major role in this effort. A new programme is dedicated to improving our data governance, both at the product and organisational level. The programme supports data-driven decision making and the optimisation of processes and products within the Lely organisation and Lely Centers, which will allow us to better serve our customers. An assessment of the IT infrastructure will help us understand what systems, processes and people need to be in place to realise our objectives, and how we can leverage digital technology to improve our customer centricity and cow focus.
Developing our future way
of working
Hybrid, flexible and smart. Our Future Ways of Working programme is a response to our changing world in which work happens not just in the office, but also from home and on the go. At Lely, we are guiding and accommodating our employees to adjust to this new way of working. Our new headquarter in Maassluis for example, which will open in the summer of 2022, is fully equipped for hybrid work. New tools allow employees to organise their work more flexibly. At its core, our Future Ways of Working programme encourages employees to choose a location that best suits their activities and provides the support they need to accomplish their goals. Communication and inspiration are part of our effort to help employees navigate this new environment and work efficiently, effectively and full of energy.
To remain a leader in dairy farming innovation, we invest in our people, systems, processes and organisational structure. We move with our changing world and prepare for the future, anticipating new market and global developments that will impact our business, employees and customers. By empowering our workforce and giving them the tools to stay ahead of the market, we create a future-proof organisation and realise an enjoyable, sustainable and profitable future in farming.
